WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rep. Tom Emmer has officially declared his candidacy for the position of U.S. House speaker, following the unprecedented removal of Rep. Kevin McCarthy earlier this month.
In a tweet on Saturday morning, Emmer stated that he is running for the position “to unite our conference and resume our work.”
Emmer went on to emphasize the accomplishments of the Republican majority in the House over the past 10 months, stating, “Our Conference has demonstrated what we can achieve when we come together as a team. … Our conference is at a critical juncture, and we face significant challenges. We must fight vigorously to retain our House Majority and deliver on our conservative agenda.”
