Britney Spears is shedding light on her decision to pen her upcoming memoir. The pop superstar took to social media on Friday to address her intentions with the highly-anticipated book titled ‘The Woman in Me,’ set to be released next week.

Spears, 41, expressed in a note shared on Instagram and X (formerly Twitter), “My book was never meant to offend anyone in any way. That was my past, and I have moved on. It’s a beautiful clean slate from here on out. This is the last I’ll speak about it. Sh*t happens!”

The “Toxic” singer clarified that the events depicted in her memoir mostly date back 20 years, and she aims to establish a fresh start for the rest of her life. She added, “Hopefully, I can enlighten people who often feel alone, hurt, or misunderstood. My motive was not to dwell on my past experiences…”.

Even before its release, ‘The Woman in Me’ has already sparked discussions about Spears’ 14-year-long conservatorship, her early career, and her past relationships with Justin Timberlake and Colin Farrell. The book promises to divulge further revelations.

Prior to its launch, Spears sat down with PEOPLE to discuss the memoir, addressing difficult moments and offering insight into her life following the termination of her conservatorship in 2021. Spears expressed the importance of recounting her story firsthand, stating, “It’s finally time for me to raise my voice and speak out, and my fans deserve to hear it directly from me.” She emphasized that writing the book allows her to take ownership of her past, present, and future, putting an end to the lies and conspiracies.

‘The Woman in Me’ is set to hit the shelves on October 24th and is available for pre-order. Additionally, fans can look forward to the audiobook edition, narrated by Oscar nominee Michelle Williams, who will lend her voice to most of the memoir while Spears reads the introduction. Spears expressed her gratitude to Williams for her contribution, calling the book a labor of love filled with various emotions.
