An emotional prayer service at Pepperdine University on Thursday honored the four students who tragically lost their lives in a crash on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu earlier this week.
Niamh Rolston, Asha Weir, Deslyn Williams, and Peyton Stewart were all seniors at Pepperdine’s Seaver College of Liberal Arts and members of the Alpha Phi sorority. They were struck by a vehicle on Tuesday night in the 21600 block of Pacific Coast Highway near Carbon Canyon Road.
On Thursday morning, Pepperdine University held a prayer service at its Firestone Fieldhouse to pay tribute to the students. All classes at Seaver College were canceled to allow students to attend the service.
“Join us as we gather in a spirit of comfort and compassion to pray for the families and friends of those we have lost. Let us come together as a community and seek peace and comfort from our loving God during this difficult time,” stated school officials in a message sent to the university community.
The service featured addresses from President Jim Gash, Provost Jay Brewster, and Vice President for Student Affairs Connie Horton. The community immersed itself in prayer and scripture, seeking healing from God.
The campus of Pepperdine University is offering “spiritual and emotional support, including from the counseling center, pastoral care team, and student care team” for anyone in need.
Weir, a student from Philadelphia majoring in English, had just returned from Philadelphia to Los Angeles on the day of the crash, according to her mother interviewed by KCAL News.
Rolston, a Los Angeles native studying business, had plans of pursuing a master’s degree after her graduation in the spring. Her father described her as a vibrant individual.
Stewart, originally from New York, was studying business.
Williams, who grew up near Atlanta, had aspirations of becoming a veterinarian.
These four women tragically lost their lives when an out-of-control driver struck them while they were standing on the side of the road on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu at around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
The driver, 22-year-old Fraser Michael Bohm, was traveling westbound when he lost control of his vehicle, hitting three parked cars before colliding with the students.Follow Google News
