Robert De Niro Opens Up About Being an 80-Year-Old Father and the Support of Girlfriend Tiffany Chen
Robert De Niro, the acclaimed actor, recently shared his experiences of being a father at the age of 80. De Niro and his girlfriend, Tiffany Chen, welcomed their daughter Gia in April, and De Niro admits that becoming a new father again is not without its challenges.
During an interview with The Guardian, De Niro expressed his feelings about fatherhood and the support he receives from Chen. He mentioned that while it’s “going okay,” it definitely does not get easier. De Niro acknowledged that he is present and supportive, but it’s Chen who does the heavy lifting when it comes to raising their daughter. He stressed the importance of having help to navigate this new chapter in their lives.
In a separate interview, Chen revealed that she had been diagnosed with Bell’s palsy shortly after Gia’s birth. She described the symptoms she experienced, including numbness in her tongue and face. Chen, who is a martial arts instructor and kickboxer, found even simple tasks like eating to be challenging. Recognizing that something was seriously wrong, she sought immediate medical attention and was admitted to the hospital. There, she lost all facial function.
The couple met on the set of De Niro’s film “The Intern” in 2015, but at the time, De Niro was still married to his second wife, Grace Hightower. De Niro has a total of six other children, each with a different partner. He emphasized that his parenting style varies with each child, taking into account their age and individual needs.
De Niro also mentioned the tragic loss of his grandson, Leandro, who passed away from an accidental overdose. Reflecting on his experiences, De Niro emphasized that surprises can happen in any aspect of life, including parenthood.
