Sitting on our cutting-edge platform, this innovative offering boasts unparalleled levels of sophistication. Take a look at the folding steering wheel that doubles as a work table (pictured inset). The new model is also available with refined powertrains, including a new plug-in hybrid and the option for all-wheel drive.
Similar to its predecessor, this spacious people carrier can comfortably transport up to nine passengers. It also features ultra-flexible track-mounted rear seating, hands-free power side doors, a B&O audio system, and a panoramic glass roof. The new seats are lighter than those in the previous model, and the second row comes with integrated seatbelts, allowing for quick and easy cabin reconfiguration. This includes a unique six-person conference layout. Isofix points are available on all three seats in the second row, as well as the two outboard seats in the third row. All seats can be adjusted independently with the slide function.
Even with all the seats in use, there is a massive 1,300 liters of luggage space. When the seats are removed, it expands to a cavernous 5,400 liters. Unlike its Transit van counterpart, the Tourneo features independent rear suspension for enhanced ride comfort and stability. This is further improved by Ford’s new eight-speed automatic transmission (optional). The Tourneo is also equipped with advanced technology. Every model comes with the Ford Pro software platform, offering live connectivity. The cockpit features an eight-inch digital display and a large 13-inch touchscreen. The infotainment system includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Tourneo also comes with a range of safety features, such as Exit Warning to prevent children from opening doors in traffic or with a vehicle approaching. It also has a wireless charging station for multiple devices and other cool tech, like an Alexa-style voice control unit, reverse brake assist, and a 360-degree camera system.
The Tourneo is available in standard or long wheelbase and three trims — Active, Sport, or Titanium X. The top-end model comes with 19-inch alloy wheels, full matrix LED headlights, and sumptuous Sensico synthetic leather seats. Irish customers can choose from a comprehensive range of engines, including Ford’s EcoBlue diesel units with 136, 150, or 170 horsepower, or the new plug-in hybrid (PHEV). The PHEV combines a 2.5-liter petrol engine with an 11.8kWh battery pack, generating 232 horsepower and offering an electric driving range of 52 kilometers. All models have the option for a retractable tow bar, and the diesel engines can tow up to 2.5 tonnes. For those looking for a greener option, there’s the all-electric E-Tourneo. It’s powered by a 64kWh battery that generates 160 horsepower and has a range of 325 kilometers (WLTP). We recently tested the outgoing model and were pleasantly surprised by its comfort, lofty driving position, and armchair-like seats. The suspension handled various road conditions effortlessly, and it achieved an impressive fuel efficiency of over 40mpg.
If the new Tourneo is even half as good, it’s sure to be a hit for those seeking more than a cramped SUV. Prices and full specifications will be announced, with the EV variant arriving next summer. Cannonball 4×4 event promises to be even wilder.
