Washington Commanders offensive tackle Charles Leno Jr. was unable to play in the team’s Week 6 game against the Atlanta Falcons due to a personal tragedy. Leno’s wife, Jennifer Leno, shared on Instagram that they had experienced a miscarriage.
In an emotional Instagram post, Jennifer wrote, “Last night our sweet baby girl, Paitynn Maui Leno, gained her wings unexpectedly. She came into this world just like her big sisters, quick & fierce, & was such a little fighter.” The post was also shared on Charles Leno Jr.’s Instagram account.
The Commanders confirmed that Leno would not be playing in the game against Atlanta. The NFL community has been sending messages of support to the Leno family in light of the devastating news.
“So sorry, Jen and Charles. Prayers for your entire family,” expressed NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
Los Angeles Chargers defensive lineman Nick Williams also shared his sympathy, saying, “So sorry for y’all’s loss brother. The Williams family is praying for peace and understanding! In Jesus’ name.”
Leno, who is 32 years old, and Jen are parents to three daughters.
Jennifer initially surprised Leno with the news of her pregnancy over the summer while he was at training camp.
Leno was originally drafted in the seventh round out of Boise State in 2014 and played for the Chicago Bears until the end of the 2020 season. He then signed with Washington on a one-year deal in 2021 and later agreed to a three-year, $37.5 million extension in early 2022. Leno earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2018.
