Avoiding iOS 17: A Former Apple Insider Reveals Why Certain iPhone Users Should Proceed with Caution

If you’re considering updating your iPhone, you might want to think twice. A TikToker who claims to have worked as an Apple sales specialist is cautioning iPhone 13 owners and those with older models against downloading the most recent operating system, iOS 17, which was released last month. Tyler Morgan, who goes by @hitomidocameraroll on TikTok, has experienced app crashing and lag with popular media apps like TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and Netflix since updating to iOS 17. He also mentioned that his phone would sometimes lose Wi-Fi signal even when his computer had a perfect connection.

Morgan believes that Apple intentionally prioritizes newer models with updates, causing older models to suffer from the effects of the update. While he acknowledges the new features that come with iOS 17, such as NameDrop and StandBy mode, he warns that the update slows down older phones. His TikTok videos discussing this issue have garnered millions of views and comments from users asking if this is true, to which Morgan confirms that it is.

Living in Los Angeles, Morgan claims that iOS 17 was specifically designed for the iPhone 15 and will work fine on the iPhone 14 but will start causing problems on the iPhone 13 and older models. He emphasizes that the update is not necessary and that Apple has been doing this since the iPhone 4.

The Washington Post reached out to Apple for comment on this matter.

In his TikTok video, Morgan clarifies that iOS 17 is not completely unusable on older phones, but users won’t get the full experience that Apple advertises. Instead, they will encounter lag and other problems. He predicts that users will have to charge their phones three to four times a day due to battery drain caused by the update. Morgan recommends that if users are satisfied with their current phone experience on their current update, they should stick with it and not update to iOS 17.

In response to The Post, Morgan adds that newer iOS updates are not optimized for older-model phones, and Apple has the power to make the updates work well on all iPhones if they choose to. However, they purposely make older phones feel outdated, which eventually leads users to purchase newer models.

Despite Morgan’s warnings, several TikTok commenters have claimed that they are using iOS 17 on older models without any issues. Some even mention that their phones run smoother than before. One user even mentions using the iOS 17 beta on their iPhone XR without any problems.

Overall, whether or not to update to iOS 17 is a decision that users should make based on their own personal experiences and preferences.
