Revolutionary Upgrade: Munro Incorporates Exoskeleton into Sleek Electric 4×4

Just a few weeks after capturing the attention of the media with its Mountain Rescue 4×4, Munro Vehicles is once again in the spotlight. This time, the company is introducing its latest innovation, the Series-M utility vehicle. Munro has taken early feedback into consideration and made several refinements to the design, including a sleeker front-end, revised bodywork, and the addition of an exoskeleton rack for carrying tools. The Series-M offers improved range, efficiency, and comfort for drivers.

Moving away from the previous broad and boxy design, Munro has created a more streamlined T-shaped fascia with floating headlamps and arched fender flares. While opinions on the new styling may vary, Munro states that the new design enhances forward visibility, aerodynamics, and cooling. The company has also made changes to the rear fender arches to match the front set and focused on making body components easier to replace. The standout feature is the “exoskeleton,” a honeycomb-like rack mounted around the rear of the utility model’s hardtop that allows for the attachment of tools and accessories.

While the Truck version does not include the exoskeleton rack, it still offers a pickup bed for added utility. Munro has also made improvements to the powertrain and running gear, with a more durable lithium-iron-phosphate battery and a larger 85-kWh battery pack that provides a range of 200 miles. The base model, M170, has a power output of 227 hp, while the top-tier M280 retains the powerful 375-hp electric motor. The vehicle features permanent mechanical 4WD, a two-speed transfer case, and locking differentials for optimal off-road performance. Munro has also incorporated adjustable steering, safety features like ABS and airbags, and ergonomic enhancements for a comfortable driving experience.

Ross Anderson, Munro’s cofounder and head of powertrain, explains that the Series-M has improved thermal efficiency and utilizes waste heat from the drivetrain to heat the cabin. This, along with enhanced sound deadening measures, ensures a comfortable travel experience whether on the road or off-roading.

In addition to the Series-M reveal, Munro has launched an equity crowdfunding campaign on Seedrs to raise funds for production, expansion, and delivering its first vehicles. The company has already received over 250 preorders for the Utility and Truck models. Pilot vehicles will be delivered to early-adopter customers in 2023, with full production deliveries scheduled for 2024 and 2025. Munro’s goal is to produce 2,500 vehicles per year by 2027.
