In the latest drawing of the multi-state Powerball lottery, no tickets were sold with all six numbers, leading to an estimated jackpot of $1.04 billion for Monday’s drawing. This makes it the ninth-largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history.
However, there were seven tickets sold with five numbers but missing the Powerball number. The Multi-State Lottery Association reported that two of these tickets, sold in Indiana and North Carolina, are worth $2 million each because the players used the Power Play option. This option allows a ticket with five numbers, but without the Powerball number, to be worth $2 million for an additional $1 per play.
Additionally, the tickets sold in Florida, Maryland, Michigan, and Pennsylvania are each worth $1 million.
The drawing on Saturday revealed the numbers 19, 30, 37, 44, 46, and the Powerball number was 22. The estimated jackpot for this drawing was initially $969 million, making it the ninth-largest in U.S. lottery history.
The Powerball jackpot is the fourth-largest in the game’s history, which dates back to 1992. There have been five Mega Millions drawings with even larger jackpots.
It has been since July 19 that a ticket worth $1.08 billion was sold in a downtown Los Angeles mini-market, which is the seventh-largest jackpot in U.S. history. Since then, there have been 30 consecutive drawings without a grand prize winner.
According to the Multi-State Lottery Association, the odds of matching all five numbers and the Powerball number are 1 in 292.2 million. The overall chance of winning any prize is 1 in 24.9.
The Powerball game is available in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
