Maruti Suzuki Achieves Milestone with YTD Sales Surpassing 10 Lakh Units

In a historic achievement, Maruti Suzuki has recorded sales of over 10 lakh units from April to September 2023. The company saw growth in certain segments while facing setbacks in others. In September 2023, total sales (domestic + exports) reached 1,81,343 units, surpassing the 1,76,306 units sold in September 2022. Sales also increased from the previous month, with 1,56,114 units sold in August 2023. These impressive YTD sales figures mark a significant milestone for Maruti Suzuki.

Positive Performance in Maruti PV Sales for September 2023

During the April to September 2023 period, Maruti Suzuki’s total sales amounted to 10,50,085 units, showing growth compared to the 9,85,326 units sold in the same period the previous year. However, the Mini and Compact segments saw a decline in sales on both a YoY and YTD basis.

The Mini car segment, which includes models like the Alto and S-Presso, witnessed a decrease to 10,351 units in September 2023 from 29,574 units in September 2022. YTD sales also fell to 72,550 units in the FY24 period from 1,21,056 units in the FY23 period. Similarly, sales of Compact cars, including the Baleno, Celerio, and DZire, experienced a YoY de-growth, dropping to 68,552 units in September 2023 from 72,176 units in September 2022. YTD sales decreased to 4,18,930 units in the FY24 period from 4,33,428 units in FY23. However, the mid-size segment, represented by the Maruti Ciaz, reported a growth of 1,491 units in September 2023.

Compared to September 2022, the total number of units sold in September 2023 decreased to 78,903 from 1,01,750. YTD sales also saw a decline, falling to 4,91,480 units in FY24 from 5,54,484 units in FY23. However, there was a slight growth of 1,491 units in the mid-size segment.

Rising Demand for Maruti’s Utility Vehicles

Maruti Suzuki’s utility vehicles, such as the Brezza, Ertiga, Fronx, and Grand Vitara, experienced a significant increase in sales on a YoY and YTD basis. In September 2023, 59,271 units were sold, compared to 32,574 units in September 2022. YTD sales showed a substantial rise, reaching 3,06,467 units in the FY24 period, compared to 1,63,630 units in FY23.

On the other hand, van sales (Eeco) decreased to 11,147 units in September 2023 from 12,697 units in September 2022. Domestic passenger vehicle sales totaled 1,50,812 units in September 2023, up from 1,48,380 units in September 2022. Similarly, YTD sales increased to 8,73,107 units in FY24 from 7,94,550 units in the same period last year.

In the commercial vehicle segment, Maruti Suzuki’s Super Carry witnessed a de-growth, with sales declining to 2,294 units from 2,505 units in September 2022. YTD sales also dipped to 15,496 units in the FY24 period from 19,509 units in FY23. The Super Carry received updates at the start of this financial year, including improved fuel efficiency, enhanced safety features, and a more powerful engine lineup.
