New York Gov. Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency on Friday for New York City after heavy rainfall caused flooding on the streets and in subway stations. LaGuardia Airport had to close access to Terminal A, and FDR Drive in Manhattan was closed due to floodwaters, leading to road closures and transportation delays.
During the flooding, a female sea lion escaped from the Central Park Zoo and took the opportunity to “explore the area”. However, the sea lion did not breach the zoo’s perimeter and was monitored by zoo staff throughout its expedition.
