Former U.S. President Donald Trump will personally attend his ongoing civil fraud trial in New York next week, as he continues to express his dissatisfaction with the case. In a bid to support his 2024 presidential campaign, Trump has also urged his supporters to make donations before a crucial deadline.
According to insiders, Trump is set to travel to New York on Sunday night and appear in Manhattan Supreme Court on Monday and Tuesday for the bench trial concerning the lawsuit brought against him by New York Attorney General Letitia James.
Trump, in an email to his joint fundraising committee, stated, “After enduring four baseless arrests, indictments, and even a mugshot, a Democrat judge is now attempting to dismantle my Family Business. Democrats aim to bring down the renowned ‘Trump Tower’ and impose what some refer to as ‘the corporate death penalty’ on me.”
The former Republican president has been actively fundraising to demonstrate his resilience in the face of mounting legal challenges. He seeks to raise millions of dollars before the Federal Election Commission’s third-quarter deadline on Saturday. In the last quarter, his campaign accumulated $35 million in donations.
Trump’s recent plea for donations follows Manhattan Judge Arthur Engoron’s ruling that held Trump, along with his two sons and the Trump Organization, accountable for fraudulently inflating the values of multiple real estate properties. This includes his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida. Engoron also revoked the business licenses of various Trump corporate entities and proposed a receiver to oversee their dissolution. Trump intends to appeal this decision.
The upcoming trial will address the remaining six claims made by Attorney General Letitia James. She seeks $250 million in damages and demands a restraining order preventing Trump, Donald Trump Jr., and Eric Trump from operating any businesses in the state.
Trump is currently facing criminal indictments in state courts in New York and Georgia, as well as federal courts in Washington, D.C., and Florida. He has pleaded not guilty in all cases. Notably, two of these cases accuse Trump of felonies related to his efforts to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia and Washington, challenging President Joe Biden’s victory.
