A former White House aide, Cassidy Hutchinson, revealed on Wednesday that she was inspired to speak out about her observations during the final days of the Trump administration by former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.).
During her appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Hutchinson was asked by co-host Willie Geist about Cheney’s support throughout the process of testifying before Congress.
“I truly believe Liz Cheney is the epitome of a leader that we should all aspire to be,” Hutchinson told Geist. “She possesses an unyielding backbone and a deep love for our country.”
Hutchinson expressed her gratitude for Cheney’s assistance, highlighting the significance of Cheney’s collaboration with Democratic committee members. She emphasized that this moment reflects the precariousness of our country’s situation.
“I like to believe that even without Liz Cheney, I would have reached this point, but I am certain that it was her influence that brought me to where I am today,” Hutchinson stated. “I am forever indebted to her.”
Cheney, one of the ten Republicans who voted for Trump’s impeachment in relation to the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol, was recently removed as the co-chairwoman of the House select committee investigating the insurrection. As an aide to former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, Hutchinson testified before the now-disassembled select committee last year, becoming the first member of the Trump administration to do so.
Cheney’s opposition to Trump ultimately resulted in her removal from her leadership position within the House Republican Conference in 2021 and her loss to Trump-endorsed candidate Harriet Hageman in her state’s primary election last year.
Hutchinson’s remarks coincide with the indictments of Trump and 18 of his allies, issued by a Georgia grand jury last month for their involvement in attempts to overturn the 2020 election.
This year, Trump, who declared his candidacy for president for the third time in November, has faced three additional indictments related to his business dealings, handling of classified documents, and actions following the 2020 election.
Hutchinson has also published a new book called “Enough,” which delves into her experiences working under the Trump administration and the circumstances that led her to testify before Congress.
