Small and Value Cars – Class Average Score: 95.1%
Most Reliable: The Suzuki Swift has the highest reliability rating among all small and value cars. Owners reported only a 4% reliability problem in the last two years, mostly related to interior trim issues. These problems were quickly and free of charge fixed.
Least Reliable: The Audi A1 scored the lowest reliability rating in this category with 87.3%. A quarter of A1 owners reported issues with their cars in the last 24 months, and these were not easy or cheap to fix. While half of the repairs were free, a quarter cost between £201 and £500, and the remaining 25% exceeded £1500.
Family Cars – Class Average Score: 90.1%
Least Reliable: Three in five Audi A3 Sportback owners reported problems with their cars in the last two years. The majority of these issues were related to the infotainment and electrical systems.
Most Reliable: The BMW 1 Series from 2011 to 2019 has a perfect reliability score. Not a single owner reported any faults with their cars in the previous 24 months.
Seven-Seaters – Class Average Score: 90.4%
Most Reliable: The Volvo XC90 is the seven-seat car with the best reliability track record. Despite some reported faults, all of them were resolved quickly and covered under warranty or repaired for free.
Least Reliable: The Seat Tarraco had a reliability rating of 85.3%. More than two in five owners reported problems, but 76% of these issues were fixed within a day. The repair cost for most owners did not exceed £200.
Small SUVs – Class Average Score: 94.4%
Least Reliable: The Citroen C3 Aircross had the lowest reliability rating in this class. Almost a third of owners reported problems, and repairs took a long time.
Most Reliable: The Suzuki Ignis scored a near-perfect reliability rating of 99.4%. Only 5% of owners reported any issues, and they were resolved swiftly and inexpensively.
Family SUVs – Class Average Score: 92.6%
Least Reliable: Diesel-engined Skoda Karoqs had a reliability rating of 80.8%, lower than petrol equivalents. Diesel owners reported more problems, longer repair times, and higher costs.
Most Reliable: The Lexus NX from 2014 to 2021 had a reliability rating of 99.8%. Only 2% of owners reported any problems, and all were resolved quickly and at no cost.
Large SUVs – Class Average Score: 92.9%
Least Reliable: The diesel-powered previous-generation Ford Kuga scored the lowest reliability rating in this segment. Half of the faulty cars took up to seven days to repair, and a quarter were out of action for more than a week.
Most Reliable: The Toyota RAV4 from 2019 to the present had a reliability rating of 98.7%. Only 2% of owners reported any issues, and most repairs were done for free.
Executive Cars – Class Average Score: 91.1%
Most Reliable: The Lexus IS had a reliability rating of 98.0%. Only 12% of owners reported problems, all of which were fixed for free by Lexus. Most cars could still be driven, and half of them were repaired the same day.
Least Reliable: The Audi A6 scored the lowest reliability rating in this category with 76.3%. Electrical issues were the most common problems, and almost half of them took more than a week to fix.
Luxury Cars – Class Average Score: 90.3%
Most Reliable: The Porsche Cayenne had a near-flawless reliability score of 98.7%. Only 6% of owners reported any issues, and all repairs were done for free.
Least Reliable: The Mercedes-Benz GLE had a reliability rating of 87.6%, with 44% of owners reporting glitches. While all necessary repairs were free, 42% of faulty examples spent more than a week in the garage.
