Wheeler Dealers Host Condemns Sadiq Khan’s ULEZ Scheme as a Regressive Tax | Trending Celebrity News in Showbiz & TV

Wheeler Dealers host Mike Brewer criticizes Sadiq Khan’s Ultra Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ) as a “tax on the poor”.

In an interview with the Car Dealer Magazine YouTube channel, Brewer compares the ULEZ to a “casino” that unfairly targets motorists who cannot afford newer, compliant vehicles.

According to Brewer, the ULEZ is not meant for the greater good but rather as a means to keep the economy moving by forcing people to upgrade their cars and generating revenue from those who cannot afford to do so.

The expansion of the ULEZ to Outer London boroughs has faced significant opposition from locals. Petrol and diesel owners with non-compliant vehicles are now charged £12.50 per day to use the roads, even in areas like Bromley and Harrow.

Transport for London estimates that the ULEZ expansion could generate approximately £200 million over the next year, although this is expected to diminish significantly by 2027.

The Mayor’s Office has defended the expansion, claiming it is not a profit-making scheme and that it will eventually lead to a net loss as more motorists comply with the regulations. However, protests in London have turned violent, reflecting the anger among residents.

Recently, individuals have been tearing down ULEZ cameras throughout the city as a form of protest.

Brewer expresses frustration with the government’s tendency to turn to car users for tax revenue whenever they are in need. He believes that taxing hardworking individuals who rely on their vehicles for work is an unfair approach.
