Discover the Captivating Refreshed Interior of Honda Accord Unveiled in Japan

The venerable Honda Accord underwent a significant transformation in 2023, receiving a more sophisticated appearance and an upgraded interior. Although still fresh, the sedan is receiving a few revisions for the international version, which recently made its debut on the automaker’s media site.

While it may not directly translate to future releases of the American model, the Japanese Accord will see changes such as a redesigned dashboard, revamped climate controls, and the elimination of the physical gear shift lever. Previously, the climate setup featured multiple buttons and knobs for quick adjustment, but the new configuration relies on a single dial. Referred to as the “Experience Selection Dial,” this versatile control allows users to adjust climate, audio, lighting, and other functions within the car.

Replacing the physical shift lever, Honda has introduced a set of buttons for park, reverse, neutral, and drive selections. These buttons are accompanied by the car’s parking brake and drive mode selection buttons. From the images available, it seems that the infotainment interface remains unchanged despite the update to the new control system. Honda also mentions updates to its Honda Sensing safety system, including the addition of a new 360-degree camera for the Japanese market, as well as plans to expand the car’s hands-off driving capabilities by 2025.

In its Japanese press release, Honda references a “newly developed” hybrid system featuring two motors, a CVT, and a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. This powertrain is likely the same one introduced in the next-generation cars back in 2022. However, there is no mention of the gas-powered variant for global markets.

While these changes are being introduced in Japan for the 2024 Accord, the updates are not reflected in the 2024 model available in the United States. The interior of the US version still includes the gear shifter and physical climate controls, and American customers have the choice between gas and hybrid powertrain options. If these updates do make their way to US Accord models, they will likely be part of a mid-cycle refresh in 2025.
