A ticket worth $5,422,749 was sold at a liquor store in Burbank during Saturday evening’s Powerball lottery drawing. This ticket had five matching numbers but was missing the Powerball number.
In other states, tickets with five matching numbers but no Powerball number are worth either $1 million or $2 million. However, California law mandates that major lottery game payouts be distributed on a pari-mutuel basis, which may result in payouts that are higher or lower than $1 million.
The Multi-State Lottery Association, which manages the game, reported that three other tickets with five matching numbers but no Powerball number were also sold.
The ticket sold in Michigan is worth $2 million because the player chose the Power Play option, which increases the value of a ticket with five matching numbers but no Powerball number to $2 million for an additional $1 per play.
The tickets sold in Florida and New York are each worth $1 million.
No tickets were sold with all six numbers, resulting in an estimated jackpot of $785 million for Monday’s drawing. This is the fourth-largest jackpot in the game’s history since it began in 1992 and the ninth-largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history.
The numbers drawn on Saturday were 1, 12, 20, 33, 66, and the Powerball number was 21. The estimated jackpot for that drawing was $748 million, making it the seventh-largest in Powerball history and the twelfth-largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history.
This drawing marked the 28th consecutive drawing without a ticket containing all six numbers.
According to the Multi-State Lottery Association, the odds of matching all five numbers and the Powerball number are 1 in 292.2 million. The overall chance of winning any prize in the Powerball game is 1 in 24.9.
The Powerball game is available in 45 states, as well as the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
