The UAW strike continues with no end in sight, but workers may receive a powerful ally next week in President Joe Biden. This move would demonstrate the current administration’s support for the 13,000 striking workers, according to a report by the Washington Post.

Earlier this week, UAW and union president Shawn Fain expressed their enthusiasm in welcoming President Joe Biden alongside workers. Unfortunately, their hopes were shattered when the Biden administration stated that only two aides would be sent. In response, UAW leadership demanded that the administration either join the picket line or not come at all. Surprisingly, it seems their wish may come true. As per the Washington Post:

President Biden will speak in Michigan on Tuesday to show his support for the UAW, according to two anonymous sources familiar with his plans. Union leaders extended an invitation to him earlier on Friday to join the picket line.

Fain went a step further during a Facebook Live event and publicly called on “everyone, all the way up to the president of the United States” to join the picket line. Michigan Democrats and fellow Biden allies had been urging him to support the striking workers.

Reporters from the Washington Post took to Twitter, or X if you prefer, to share the news of President Biden’s potential visit to the picket line. However, the visit has not been officially confirmed yet:

Reporter Jeff Stein hinted in his tweet that if President Biden were to stand with the workers on strike, it would be a significant pro-union demonstration that contrasts with the administration’s stance on railroad workers last year.

The workers are currently demanding a 36% wage increase over four years, improved retirement benefits, increased paid time off, and other benefits. The American automakers have countered with a 20% raise over four years. Whether President Biden’s presence will persuade the Big Three to meet the UAW’s demands remains uncertain, as is whether President Biden will join the workers on the picket line.
