Extreme Mid-Atlantic Storm: Anticipate Powerful Winds, Torrential Rain, and Flooding

According to forecasters, a storm off the southeastern U.S. coast is expected to make landfall in North Carolina on Friday night. This storm, named Tropical Storm Ophelia, has strengthened and is projected to bring high gusts, coastal flooding, and life-threatening rip currents as it moves northward to New Jersey over the weekend. The National Hurricane Center has issued a hurricane watch for a 130-mile stretch from north of Surf City to Ocracoke Inlet in North Carolina. While the storm may weaken after landfall, forecasters are not ruling out the possibility of additional strengthening as Ophelia approaches eastern North Carolina. Residents in the affected areas are advised to stay updated on the latest weather forecasts and to be prepared for tropical weather in the coming days.
