Macy’s Theft Spree: 4 Suspects Arrested in Pasadena, Linked to 15+ Other Robberies, Confirm Police – Orange County Register

Four people charged earlier this month with stealing thousands in clothing from Macy’s in Pasadena are believed to be responsible for retail thefts across multiple counties in California, including Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, and Ventura, according to police.

The individuals, who are reportedly of Romanian nationality, have been linked to an additional 15 thefts, although specific information regarding these crimes has not been disclosed, says Pasadena Police Lt. Carolyn Gordon.

“It is likely that this group has been conducting these thefts for an extended period, possibly within the last two months,” she added.

The authorities have yet to determine when the suspects entered the United States or how long they have been in the country.

During questioning, the suspects refrained from providing any statements to the police and insisted that they did not speak English, Lt. Carolyn Gordon stated.

On September 8, Pasadena detectives were involved in an operation targeting organized retail theft and vehicle burglaries, particularly within the South Lake Shopping District.

“We were focused on any group that entered stores with the intent to steal,” said Police Lt. Carolyn Gordon.

While conducting the operation, investigators observed four individuals at the Macy’s located at 401 S. Lake Avenue. These individuals were observed selecting “high value” clothing items, as mentioned in a police statement.

One suspect concealed the stolen items by hiding behind the others and left the store without paying, while the remaining three suspects were apprehended after a brief pursuit, the police statement revealed.

The fourth suspect, who attempted to flee in a Suburban, drove directly towards a police officer in a patrol car but narrowly avoided collision, according to the statement. The suspect was subsequently apprehended.

All the stolen items from Macy’s were recovered, Lt. Carolyn Gordon confirmed.

The suspects have pleaded not guilty to grand theft during their arraignment on September 12 at Pasadena Superior Court, as indicated by court records. Their next court date is scheduled for October 17.
