Arizona Dog Reunites with Family After 12-Year Disappearance, but Tragically Passes Away

Beloved Arizona Pup, Minion, Passes Away After 12-Year Separation from Family

Minion, the adorable Bishon Frise who captured the hearts of the nation after reuniting with his family following a 12-year disappearance, has sadly passed away. His story had only just gained national attention before his untimely death.

“Though we only had Minion back for a short time, it was truly special for us to have him at both the beginning and the end of his life,” said Skip Crandall of Glendale, Arizona in an interview with Fox News Digital. “Even though we missed out on so much, we cherished the moments we had with him.”

Tragically, Minion, who was 15 years old, died during a routine dental procedure due to complications from anesthesia. The Crandall family had recently welcomed him back into their home, thanks to the efforts of an animal control officer who found Minion and scanned his microchip, linking him back to the Crandalls.

Back in 2009, Minion had accidentally escaped from the family’s backyard when the gate was left open. Despite their best efforts, the Crandalls were unable to locate their beloved pet.

“We held onto a glimmer of hope but as the years went by, we feared we would never see him again,” Skip Crandall said.

Then, in September of this year, the family received an unexpected call from a Maricopa County animal control officer who had found a stray dog matching Minion’s description. It was a moment of disbelief and joy for the Crandalls.

“When I told the officer that we hadn’t seen our dog in over 12 years, she was in shock,” Skip Crandall recalled. “But she immediately offered to reunite us with Minion. She warned us that he might be different after all this time, but we were overjoyed at the opportunity.”

When Minion was finally brought back to his family, he recognized them immediately and his tail wagged with delight. It was clear that despite the years apart, the bond between Minion and the Crandalls remained strong.

Unfortunately, Minion’s health began to decline, and he required dental work. Tragically, he did not react well to the anesthesia and did not recover from the procedure.

Minion’s passing has left a void in the Crandall family’s hearts, but they are grateful for the time they had with him.

“We will always remember his playful spirit, his love for car rides with his head out the window, and how he snuggled up next to us during our evening TV time,” said Skip Crandall. “He was a cherished member of our family, and we are devastated by his loss.”

In memory of Minion, the Crandall family has laid him to rest in their backyard and planted a tree in his honor.
