X, formerly known as Twitter, experienced a global outage for the second time in 24 hours. The issues began around 10am ET, affecting the website, app, and server connection. However, the glitch was resolved about an hour later. Users reported problems with posts not loading properly, similar to the outage on Monday. The outage occurred as Elon Musk announced plans to charge all users for the use of X. DownDetector, a website that monitors online outages, showed that major cities in the US, as well as countries in Europe and Asia, were also affected. The majority of users experienced issues with the website, followed by the app and server connection. The cause of the outage remains unknown. Error messages displayed to users read: ‘Something went wrong, but don’t fret – it’s not your fault.’ Musk’s plan to charge users comes as X currently charges $8 a month for its Blue Membership, which provides verification checkmarks and access to premium features. However, it is uncertain how much Musk will charge non-verified users and what benefits they will receive. Musk explained his decision during a conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stating that charging a small monthly payment is the only way to combat bot accounts. This move has sparked backlash from X users, with some threatening to delete their accounts if forced to pay. There are concerns that this could lead to a decline in users for the platform.
