EXCLUSIVE: The race to replace retiring Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, is gaining steam as another candidate has thrown his hat into the ring, the first since the senator announced last week that he wouldn’t seek re-election.
In an interview with Fox News Digital, Rod Bird Jr., the Republican Mayor of Roosevelt, Utah, criticized Romney’s tenure in office, claiming that the senator failed to fulfill his promises when he was first elected in 2018.
“When Romney ran, he promised conservative values and gave hope to many people in our state,” Bird said. “However, he betrayed us in many ways and didn’t keep his word.”

Bird, who has been serving as the mayor of Roosevelt since 2018, aims to run a campaign based on “small-town values” and the principles of individualism, limited government, and freedom.
“Too many career politicians in Washington are pursuing their own agendas,” he said. “[Romney] aligned himself with radical groups like Black Lives Matter instead of engaging with small businesses and working families on Main Street who are struggling in our state.”
“My campaign won’t revolve around personalities; it will focus on defending our God-given constitutional freedoms and fighting for working families, small businesses, and everyday people impacted by Joe Biden’s failed policies.”
