Novak Djokovic pays tribute to the late basketball star Kobe Bryant as he wins his record-equaling 24th Grand Slam title at the US Open on Sunday. During the trophy presentation, Djokovic wears a “Mamba Forever” shirt.
Djokovic triumphs over Daniil Medvedev 6-3, 7-6 (7/5), 6-3, claiming his fourth US Open crown and avenging his defeat by the Russian two years ago that shattered his hopes of a calendar Grand Slam.
After the match, Djokovic reveals a t-shirt featuring an image of himself alongside Bryant, the fiercely competitive basketball great known as “Mamba.” The shirt also displays the number 24, which was worn by the Los Angeles Lakers icon during his NBA career.
Djokovic expresses his gratitude to Bryant, who passed away in a helicopter crash three years ago, for supporting him during the most challenging periods of his career, particularly when he faced a career-threatening elbow injury in 2017.
