GMA Anchor Robin Roberts Ties the Knot with Amber Laign: A Heartwarming Love Story

Wedding bells have finally rung for Robin Roberts, the anchor of “Good Morning America.” At 62 years old, Roberts officially tied the knot on Friday with her partner, former massage therapist Amber Laign, who is 48. The couple has been together for almost two decades.

The exciting news about their marriage came after a photo of their dog wearing a bow tie was posted on Instagram, revealing that the couple had wedded. The caption read, “My mommies are MARRIED. Married?…yes…married!!”

Roberts had first mentioned her wedding plans in January when she posted a clip of a conversation she had with motivational speaker and author Gabby Bernstein. In the clip, Roberts hesitated but eventually said, “I’m saying ‘yes’ to marriage. We’re getting married this year. It was something we had talked about, but we had put it off. She became ill, but it is saying ‘yes’ to that and that next chapter.”

During the January “GMA” broadcast, Roberts playfully fanned herself with her note cards and joked about revealing her “next chapter” with Laign. The couple had met in 2005 on a blind date arranged by mutual friends. However, Roberts did not publicly come out as gay until 2013, as she was afraid of being outed when interviewing former President Obama about LGBTQ rights in 2012. In her 2013 Facebook post coming out, she expressed gratitude for Amber’s support during her cancer battle.

It hasn’t been an easy journey for the couple, as Laign was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2021 and faced complications during chemotherapy in April 2022. Despite these challenges, Roberts expressed gratitude that their health issues have brought them closer together.

The decision to get married in 2022 came spontaneously for Roberts and Laign while dining at a restaurant in Connecticut. They decided to exchange rings made of calamari which they playfully put on each other’s fingers.

Earlier this month, the couple celebrated with a bachelorette bash on-air, with Roberts’ ABC colleagues and news pals in attendance. Niecy Nash co-hosted the party, Carla Hall made mocktail spicy margaritas and espresso martinis, and En Vogue performed a medley of their hits. The celebration ended with Tommy DiDario, the husband of “GMA” weekend anchor Gio Benitez, jumping out of a cake.

As for their wedding dresses, Roberts and Laign met with designers Mark Badgley and James Mischka to discuss their options. However, they decided to surprise each other by keeping their final choices hidden until the wedding day. Laign described the wedding as “the feeling of an enchanted garden”, with colors like white, blush, pink, and a hint of green, creating an ethereal atmosphere.
