An escaped murderer on the run for over a week in southeast Pennsylvania has been sighted with what authorities are describing as “a changed appearance.” Pennsylvania State Police released a statement on Sunday, indicating that Danelo Cavalcante was seen near Phoenixville in northern Chester County. Cavalcante is now clean-shaven and wearing a yellow or green hooded sweatshirt, black baseball cap, green prison pants, and white shoes. Police also reported that Cavalcante was driving a 2020 White Ford Transit van with Pennsylvania registration ZST-8818, equipped with a refrigeration unit on the top.
Cavalcante, aged 34, made his escape from Chester County Prison on August 31 while awaiting transfer to state prison. He had been sentenced to life imprisonment for fatally stabbing his ex-girlfriend in 2021. It is alleged that Cavalcante wanted to prevent his ex-girlfriend from informing the police about a murder he committed in his home country of Brazil. Phoenixville, where he was spotted, is approximately 13 miles northeast of the prison. Authorities have declared Cavalcante extremely dangerous and are urging anyone with information to contact 911. The prison tower guard responsible for overseeing Cavalcante’s escape has been fired. The escape went undetected for over an hour, until a headcount was conducted by the guards.
