A search is currently underway for the individual responsible for the unprovoked stabbing death of a 23-year-old man on a Metro B (Red) Line train in downtown Los Angeles.
The incident took place at approximately 5:20 p.m. on Thursday, while both the suspect and the victim were aboard the subway train. Without warning or provocation, the suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed Jesse Rodriguez in the chest, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Officers from the Transit Services Division who were present at Pershing Square Station provided immediate assistance to Rodriguez until paramedics arrived.
Rodriguez was transported to the hospital, where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries, confirmed LAPD Officer Tony Im.
After the incident, the suspect fled the scene on foot and was last seen ascending the stairs from the underground station, according to authorities.
To aid in the identification and capture of the suspect, the police have released a surveillance photo. They are urging the public to provide any information that may lead to his name and whereabouts. The suspect is described as a 6-foot-2 man weighing 180 pounds, with black hair, a mustache, and a goatee.
At the time of the incident, the suspect was dressed in a black wave cap, a black long-sleeve shirt, dark-colored pants, black shoes, and carrying a black Puma backpack, as reported by the police.
