‘Chaotic Situation’: Learner Drivers Resorted to Purchasing Tests on Black Market Due to Companies Blocking Test Slots | UK News

Britain’s driving test allocation system is in disarray, with learner drivers having to travel long distances or pay high fees to avoid waiting times, according to an investigation by The Observer. The number of drivers waiting for practical tests has risen from 147,716 in January 2020 to 538,702 in August. Brokers are taking advantage of the situation by using bots to book available slots on the government website, which they then sell at a profit. This has led to calls for a ban on excessive profits from the reselling of tests. Driving instructors argue that low-paid workers who need their driving licenses are being unfairly penalized.
