After Rainstorm Strikes, Burning Man Attendees Advised to Seek Shelter in Place

  • Tens of thousands of Burning Man attendees are currently trapped in the Nevada desert due to muddy conditions after a rainstorm.
  • Organizers have advised attendees to conserve food, water, and shelter in place.
  • The Bureau of Land Management has closed the entry point and halted vehicle movement.

Thousands of Burning Man attendees are currently facing a challenging situation as they find themselves trapped in the Nevada desert. Heavy rainfall has transformed the ground into a muddy mess, making it impossible for vehicles to move in and out of the temporary city known as Black Rock City. In response to these conditions, organizers have urged attendees to support one another, conserve essential resources such as food and water, and seek shelter.

Organizers took to social media to communicate the closure of the temporary airport, 88NV, and cautioned attendees to remain prepared for continued adverse weather conditions throughout the weekend. Burning Man Traffic, a social media account providing updates on the ground, advised individuals to conserve their supplies and find warm and safe spaces to take shelter.

The Bureau of Land Management, which oversees the event’s location, announced that no vehicles, except for emergency vehicles, would be allowed to drive due to the muddy conditions. They also stated that anyone attempting to enter Burning Man would be turned away for the remaining duration of the event. The Bureau warned that more rain is expected, and conditions are unlikely to improve enough for vehicles to safely enter.

As news of the situation spread, attendees took to social media to share images and videos of the challenging and muddy conditions they are facing.
