Kirstie Allsopp pays tribute to crash tragedy parents with a heartfelt lunch outing, honoring Phil Spencer

Kirstie Allsopp recently shared a heartwarming story about her co-presenter Phil Spencer and his family. Phil’s parents tragically passed away when their car toppled off a bridge and into a river while they were on their way to have lunch in August. Despite the tragedy, Kirstie revealed that Phil and his family are staying strong and remaining close during this difficult time.

During an episode of the BBC’s Newscast podcast, Kirstie shared, “He’s got a wonderful family and they are incredibly close. In fact, his sister got married yesterday, which they decided to go ahead with, and today they are all going to the same pub for lunch. It’s the same pub that his parents were on their way to when they passed away. Phil is being incredibly stoic and practical, and he believes strongly that it was the right thing for his parents to go together.”

Phil, 53, has expressed his gratitude for the way his parents passed away. He took to Instagram to share with his followers that he sees it as a “blessing” that his parents “departed this world together” and will never have to experience the pain of losing the other. He believes that this was part of God’s plan, allowing the couple to stay together after being married for six decades and raising four children.

In Phil’s Instagram post, he opened up about his parents’ declining health, stating that his mother’s Parkinson’s disease and his father’s dementia were worsening. He recognized the challenges they would face in the long run. He added, “There were no physical injuries, and I doubt they would have fought it. They would have held hands under the water and peacefully slipped away.”

The accident occurred on Friday, August 18, and the Kent Fire and Rescue service spent 90 minutes at the scene. Despite the tragic events, Phil and his family continue to support each other and find solace in their close bond.
