Report: Ex-Chris Christie aide arrested for child sex abuse and pornography charges

A former aide to Republican presidential candidate and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was apprehended last month on allegations of receiving explicit images of a six-year-old girl being sexually abused. The arrest of Kevin Tomafsky took place on August 15 after a grand jury indicted him on multiple charges related to child sex abuse. The details of the case were outlined in a report by the New Jersey Globe.

The investigation into Tomafsky, aged 41, began in October 2022 when Snapchat reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) about child sex abuse content uploaded on the platform. The NCMEC subsequently contacted the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s office to address the issue.

After reviewing the content, the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s office concluded that Tomafsky had received a photograph through the app depicting the sexual abuse of a six-year-old girl by an adult.

Authorities executed a search warrant at Tomafsky’s residence in December 2022, where he lived with his mother. During the search, fewer than 1,000 items of child sexual abuse materials were found on devices owned by Tomafsky.

Tomafsky is facing various charges, including engaging in sexual conduct with a child, conspiracy to endanger the welfare of a child, permitting a child to engage in pornography, and possession of child pornography.

Another individual, identified as Tomafsky’s father according to sources cited by the Globe, has also been charged with six criminal offenses, including sexual penetration of the six-year-old and photographing the child engaged in a sex act.

Tomafsky was originally hired by Christie in 2010 to work in the governor’s office and later served as the campaign manager for GOP Rep. Frank LoBiondo, who represented New Jersey’s 2nd Congressional District from 1995 to 2019.

After his work with Christie’s team, Tomafsky obtained a position as a government and community relations representative at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey with the assistance of Christie’s office.

It was reported that Tomafsky held a state government job until his resignation on Friday.

Tomafsky is currently being held at the Salem County Correctional Facility in Mannington Township, New Jersey. As of now, there has been no response from Christie’s campaign regarding the matter.
