Therapist Jodi Hildebrandt Informed Mormon Church about a Client in Therapy

  • Jodi Hildebrandt violated patient confidentiality by sharing details about a therapy patient with the Mormon Church without his consent.
  • As a result, Hildebrandt’s therapy license was placed on probation for 18 months.
  • Recently, Hildebrandt and YouTuber Ruby Franke were arrested on allegations of child abuse.

Jodi Hildebrandt, the business partner of Ruby Franke, a popular mommy YouTube vlogger, was arrested for alleged child abuse. However, it’s worth noting that Hildebrandt had a previous incident where she disclosed information about a therapy patient to the Mormon Church without his permission, as documented by Utah state records.

According to the Utah Department of Commerce’s Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing, Hildebrandt shared “sensitive private information” about two clients with Mormon Church leaders and Brigham Young University between April 2008 and March 2010. These discussions occurred on multiple occasions.

In March 2009, without authorization from a patient, Hildebrandt disclosed “sensitive confidential information,” including a medical diagnosis, to the Honor Code Office at BYU.

According to a 2012 article from The Salt Lake Tribune, the therapy client involved in the incident claimed that Hildebrandt’s allegations, including those about a supposed porn addiction, were false and resulted in him losing church privileges and being expelled from BYU.

The client stated, “She spent hardly any time knowing about my life… She didn’t want to talk about my personal goals or my progress. She would only threaten me that if I didn’t take more sessions and have my wife take more sessions, the alleged addiction would destroy my life.”

As a consequence of her actions, Hildebrandt’s therapy license was placed on 18-month probation in 2012. Despite this, her lawyer at the time claimed that her license remained active and her practice continued without interruption.

Hildebrandt is the founder and creator of ConneXions Classroom, which offers a unique modality of healing focusing on areas like addictive behaviors, relationship conflicts, and personal growth. However, critics have raised concerns about the group’s extreme beliefs.

Hildebrandt and Ruby Franke were arrested in Springville, Utah, on allegations of child abuse. Franke, formerly known for her popular family YouTube channel “8 Passengers,” started a new channel called ConneXions with Hildebrandt in June 2022.

At present, there is no formal court case filed against Franke and Hildebrandt following their arrest, and it is not known whether they have hired attorneys.

Both Franke and Hildebrandt remain in custody as of early Friday afternoon.

Correction: September 1, 2023 – An earlier version of this story misstated the status of Ruby Franke and Jodi Hildebrandt’s case. Police said the two have been arrested; they have not yet been formally charged in court.
