In response, the White House criticized Greene’s threat, as reported by the Guardian. Spokesman Andrew Bates stated, “The American people deserve better than for extreme House members to trigger a government shutdown that harms our economy, undermines our disaster preparedness, and forces our troops to work without guaranteed pay.” Bates also labeled Greene as part of the “hardcore fringe” of the GOP.
