AMC Theatres’ Ticket Presale Record Shattered by Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras Tour’ Film

Taylor Swift’s “Eras Tour” film, scheduled to be released in theaters on October 13th, has broken the record for presale revenue at AMC Theatres within hours of presales being announced.

“The Eras Tour has been the most significant and electrifying experience of my life so far, and I am thrilled to announce that it will soon hit the big screen,” Swift tweeted on Thursday morning, revealing the film and the opening of presales.

Within just three hours, the film generated $26 million in ticket sales, surpassing AMC Theatres’ previous record for single-day advance ticket sales revenue, as stated in a press release by AMC Theatres on Friday.

The previous record was held by “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” which earned $16.9 million through single-day advance ticket sales before its release in 2021, according to CNN.

AMC Theatres did not immediately respond to HuffPost’s request for further comment on the record-breaking sales.

AMC is acting as the distributor for the “Eras Tour” concert film, marking the beginning of a new business line for AMC Entertainment. Typically, studios distribute films to theaters.

Due to high demand for the “Eras Tour” concert film, AMC Theatres announced that it will have a minimum of four showtimes per day from Thursdays to Sundays at all of its locations in the US. The film will also be shown in other theaters, such as Regal and Cinemax.

Swift’s upcoming movie has also broken other records. According to Variety, the “Eras Tour” film shattered Fandango’s record for the biggest first-day ticket sales of 2023, joining major blockbusters like “Avengers: Endgame,” “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” and “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”

“Taylor Swift is giving moviegoers and the entire industry the ultimate gift by bringing ‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour’ concert film to the big screen,” said Jerramy Hainline, the senior vice president at Fandango Ticketing, according to Variety.

Hainline continued, “Not only is Taylor Swift’s concert film the best first-day ticket seller of the year on Fandango, but the concert film is performing like the superhero she is and ranks among the best first-day ticket sellers of all time from franchises like Marvel, Star Wars, DC Comics, and more.”

The “Eras Tour” film captures the entire Swift’s world tour for those who couldn’t attend in person or want to relive it on screen. Tickets for the movie are priced at $19.89 for adults and $13.13 for kids as a tribute to Swift’s “1989” album, which is set to be re-released in October, as well as Swift’s lucky number “13,” reported Reuters.
