MuskDonald’s: Tesla Granted Permission for Hollywood All-Night Diner featuring Drive-In Cinema and Charging Station

Drive-in movie theaters were a popular phenomenon in 1950s and 60s America, featuring roller-skating waiters and rows of shiny convertibles. However, they gradually declined in popularity about 50 years ago with the advent of VHS tapes and the preference for watching movies at home. Although they evoke a sense of nostalgia, their time seemed to be over. But now, thanks to Elon Musk, drive-in theaters might experience a mini renaissance.

Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur, has received approval to open an all-night Tesla diner that includes a drive-in cinema and a charging station for Tesla cars. The diner will feature two impressive 45-foot LED movie screens that will run famous film clips 24/7. It’s a futuristic take on nostalgia, combining the comfort of a car with the glamour of Hollywood’s golden age.

Musk’s vision is to create a unique experience where people can enjoy a 30-minute glimpse of iconic movie scenes while grabbing a bite to eat and simultaneously waiting for their cars to recharge. The design of the diner aims to capture a retro-futuristic aesthetic, blending elements from the classic movie “Grease” with the futuristic animated sitcom “The Jetsons.” Tesla has released technical drawings of the proposed drive-in, and architect Ed Howard has even created 3D renders based on those drawings.

The drive-in facility will have two 45-foot LED screens, both indoor and outdoor seating options, and 28 supercharging points. Visitors will have the opportunity to recharge their vehicles while enjoying their time at the diner. The proposed location for the drive-in is on Santa Monica Boulevard in Hollywood, adding to its allure and connection to the film industry.

The construction of the Tesla diner is expected to commence soon as it has received approval from the city of Los Angeles. The venue will have indoor and outdoor seating, and once built, visitors will even be able to pay with the cryptocurrency Dogecoin. Musk has previously mentioned the idea of Tesla-branded diners near their charging stations and filed for trademarks related to potentially entering the restaurant business. The current plan involves demolishing a Shakey’s Pizza Parlor to make way for the new diner.

While exact details of the interior decor are not yet available, the technical drawings suggest a blend of futuristic and retro elements. Tesla may be going for a more futuristic style despite initially pitching the idea as an “old-school” diner. The 2023 Investor Day presentation by Tesla also hinted at the design, further validating Ed Howard’s concept.

With the approval granted, more information about the Tesla diner is expected to be revealed soon.

Superchargers are a vital part of Tesla’s network, allowing their electric vehicles to power up for long-distance travel. The prices for using the Supercharger service vary worldwide. To charge a Tesla, drivers park and connect their vehicle to the Supercharger post. The vehicle’s charge port will indicate when charging has begun. Charging progress can be monitored on the instrument panel or the Tesla App. Superchargers can recharge Tesla cars up to 80% in just 30 minutes. Currently, Tesla has over 2,500 Supercharger Stations with 25,000 Superchargers worldwide.
