Inquirer Journalist Sustains Injuries in Accident at the Big Dome

Denison Rey Dalupang, a sports reporter for the Philippine Daily Inquirer, suffered an injury while covering Day 2 of the Fiba World Cup. Late Saturday night, a loose parking signage fell on his head at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Dalupang was immediately taken to the hospital for tests and confinement after the accident.

While walking to their vehicles in the parking space after their coverage, Dalupang and Rappler’s Delfin Dioquino encountered a strong gust of wind that caused the metal-framed signage to fall hard on the back of Dalupang’s head.

Dioquino said, “He was conscious and able to speak after the incident but had a bump on his head and felt dizzy. He was brought to the hospital where he underwent a CT-Scan and X-ray.”

Vergel Talabi, a guard at the parking space near Shopwise and Cubao Expo, witnessed the incident and called for medics and an ambulance. The injured reporter was immediately rushed to the World Citi Medical Center in Quezon City.

Dalupang has been advised to rest for the next 48 hours and was released from the hospital on Sunday morning. He is currently recovering from the head injury and has been temporarily removed from the coverage team. INQ
