Rudy Giuliani voluntarily turned himself in on Wednesday to face criminal charges for allegedly conspiring with former President Donald Trump and others to interfere with the legitimate outcome of the 2020 presidential election in Georgia.
Giuliani, a renowned former federal prosecutor and mayor of New York City, arrived at an Atlanta jail for booking shortly after his bail was set at $150,000.
In a statement to reporters, he mentioned, “I spoke to the President [Trump] today. I wish him the best.”
“I have complete confidence in him. The actions against him represent an assault on the American Constitution and its citizens,” Giuliani emphasized.
Before leaving his Manhattan apartment to fly to Atlanta, Giuliani defended his actions on behalf of Trump.
He stated, “I am fighting for justice. I have been doing so ever since I began representing Donald Trump.”
“Now, regardless of your opinion on Donald Trump, I must warn you. They will come after you,” he added.
For weeks following the 2020 election, Giuliani baselessly alleged widespread ballot fraud that supposedly led to the victory of President Joe Biden. He actively encouraged officials in Georgia and other states to overturn Trump’s electoral defeat.
Last week, Trump, Giuliani, and 17 other defendants were indicted by a grand jury in Fulton County for their alleged involvement in the election conspiracy. Giuliani himself is facing 13 criminal counts.
