August 25, 2023 (UPI) — Miley Cyrus has returned with fresh music.
The renowned 30-year-old musician and actress dropped her latest single and music video, “Used to Be Young,” on Friday.
The “Used to Be Young” music video showcases Cyrus shedding tears while reflecting on her past and contemplating her present self.
In one verse, she sings, “The truth is bulletproof, there’s no foolin’ you / I don’t dress the same / Me and who you say I was yesterday / Have gone our separate ways / Left my livin’ fast somewhere in the past / ‘Cause that’s for chasin’ cars / Turns out open bars lead to broken hearts / And goin’ way too far.”
In an Instagram post, Cyrus describes the song as “a tribute to our past, a testament to our present, and a celebration of our future.”
She writes, “Reflecting on my past fills me with pride, and envisioning the future fills me with joy. I am deeply grateful for my dedicated fans who continually bring my dreams to life. I sincerely appreciate the unwavering support you provide. This song is dedicated to you.”
Cyrus discusses the “Used to Be Young” music video in the ABC special titled Miley Cyrus – Endless Summer Vacation: Continued (Backyard Sessions) that premiered on Thursday, revealing that her emotions during filming were prompted by the presence of her mother, Tish Cyrus.
She shares, “I am a reflection of my mom in many ways. Through a technology that enabled me to live stream with my mom from within the camera, we were able to see each other. As she danced, it brought forth laughter, tears, and numerous genuine emotions. This video truly grants viewers access to raw emotions, something that is unfortunately quite rare in today’s world.”
Earlier, Cyrus mentioned that she composed “Used to Be Young” at the start of her album Endless Summer Vacation during a period when she felt misunderstood.
She released Endless Summer Vacation in March.
