Trump Breaks Silence on Twitter with Surprising Mugshot Reveal After Over Two Years

Former President Donald Trump has made a comeback on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, after a hiatus of over two years. In a tweet, Trump shared his mug shot taken at Fulton County Jail on Thursday when he surrendered in Georgia following an indictment related to an alleged scheme to overturn the state’s presidential election results. This latest case has Trump facing 13 felony counts.

Accompanying the mug shot, the image also featured the text “election interference” and “never surrender.” Capitalizing on this, the former president has started selling T-shirts adorned with his mug shot.

Since its posting, Trump’s tweet has received more than 1 million likes. It’s worth noting that Trump was previously banned from Twitter and Facebook for violating the platforms’ policies. Twitter permanently suspended his account on January 9, 2021, after he was accused of inciting the insurrection that took place at the U.S. Capitol.

Twitter justified its decision at the time, stating, “After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them, we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence.”

Elon Musk took over the X platform and reinstated Trump’s Twitter account. However, Trump has chosen to stay off that social media site and instead focus on his own platform, Truth Social.

Trump’s last tweet was on January 8, 2021, when he stated, “To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th.” This was just two days after the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, during which Trump tweeted, “I am asking for everyone at the U.S. Capitol to remain peaceful. No violence! Remember, WE are the Party of Law & Order – respect the Law and our great men and women in Blue. Thank you!”

Regarding the Georgia case, it marks Trump’s fourth indictment this year. However, this mug shot is the first to be taken in any of the cases. Previously, Georgia District Attorney Fani Willis announced that a grand jury had indicted Trump and 18 co-conspirators for attempting to reverse his loss in Georgia’s 2020 presidential election. The indictment lists a total of 41 counts, charging the defendants under the state’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO), commonly used against organized crime.

Furthermore, a federal grand jury has also indicted Trump for his alleged attempts to prevent the transfer of power to President Joe Biden on January 6. Trump faces four charges under this indictment: conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of an attempt to obstruct an official proceeding, and conspiracy against rights.

Georgia District Attorney Fani Willis has given all 19 defendants, including Trump, until August 25 to turn themselves in. Trump allies such as Rudy Giuliani have already started showing up at the Fulton County jail this week. Trump’s booking process took about 30 minutes, and he posted a $200,000 bond. As bookings and arraignments are conducted separately in Georgia, Trump did not appear in court on Thursday. A proposed date for the arraignments is the week of September 5, pending approval from a judge.
