A suspect who opened fire in a Pittsburgh neighborhood after receiving an eviction notice has died, as confirmed by law enforcement officials, according to sources.

The incident took place in Pittsburgh’s Garfield neighborhood on Wednesday, leading authorities to declare an “active shooting situation.”

During an attempt to deliver the court-ordered eviction notice, the suspect started shooting at law enforcement officials, triggering a gunfight, revealed Allegheny County Sheriff Kevin Kraus at a press conference on Wednesday afternoon.

Several deputies arrived at the scene, and one of them sustained a superficial head injury while seeking cover, authorities reported.

Officers diligently worked to evacuate residents from nearby houses, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety. Individuals inside were advised to take shelter and contact 911.

“I am incredibly proud of the dedication, professionalism, and successful outcome of our law enforcement partners in ensuring the safety of all involved. No officers or community members were harmed,” stated Pittsburgh Police Chief Larry Scirotto during the press conference.

The identity of the suspect has not been disclosed by authorities.

The response to the incident involved the collaboration of the FBI, Pittsburgh SWAT, Pennsylvania State Police, Allegheny County Police, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, as mentioned by officials.

“We have multiple agencies working together at present, striving to find the most optimal resolution,” remarked Pennsylvania State Trooper Rocco Gagliardi during a media briefing.
