Surge in Investor Demand Prompts Launch of ETF Portal by Taiwan Bourse

The Taiwan Stock Exchange has launched an innovative exchange traded fund platform that provides investors with up-to-date information on trends and the latest ETF data. ETFs have become the fastest-growing investment product in the market.

In recent years, Taiwan’s ETF market has experienced significant growth as local investors show increased interest in high-dividend ETFs.

According to data from the Securities Investment Trust and Consulting Association, the total assets of 221 onshore Taiwanese ETFs reached a historic high of NT$3.06tn ($96.3bn) in June. This represents a 30.8% increase from NT$2.34tn at the end of 2022.

Furthermore, five ETFs have surpassed NT$100bn in assets under management.

Yuanta Fund, a local fund giant, introduced the Yuanta Taiwan Top 50 ETF in 2003, which currently leads the ETF market with NT$342.4bn in assets as of June.

The second-largest ETF is the Yuanta Taiwan High Dividend Low Volatility ETF with NT$223.29bn in assets, followed by the Cathay MSCI Taiwan ESG Sustainability High Dividend Yield ETF with NT$206.36bn.

Youthful investors in Taiwan have played a significant role in driving the ETF boom. The proportion of 25 to 34-year-olds investing in ETFs has risen from around 10% between 2018 and 2020 to nearly 50% in 2022, making young people the fastest-growing group of ETF investors.
