Raging wildfires in British Columbia and the Northwest Territories have caused widespread devastation, according to Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
A state of emergency has been declared in B.C., where numerous fires have led to mass evacuations. In the N.W.T., the capital’s residents have been ordered to evacuate due to an approaching wildfire.
Trudeau, speaking in Cornwall, P.E.I., before a Liberal cabinet retreat, expressed his concern for the evacuees from the N.W.T. He acknowledged the terrifying situations they are facing and the devastation they are witnessing. Trudeau emphasized that people across Canada are deeply affected by the images of destruction and are worried about their friends and communities.
“This is a scary and heartbreaking time for people.”
