Angels Secure Victory in Game 1 of Doubleheader against Rays

In Anaheim, the Angels are embracing their good luck without any apologies. They took advantage of well-placed hits and the Rays’ poor defense to score six runs against Tyler Glasnow in the first three innings of Game 1 of their doubleheader. However, their hopes of reaching a .500 record took a step forward and then a step back when they were drubbed 18-4 in the second game, the most runs they’ve allowed all season.

Manager Phil Nevin expressed his disappointment, saying, “Your day ends with a sour taste. It changes the whole complexion of the day.”

In the first game, López earned the save, but Randal Grichuk also deserved credit for his outstanding play at the fence to prevent a homer. The bottom of the second inning saw unconventional hits from left-handed batters, which allowed the Angels to score some runs. Mickey Moniak’s single and Grichuk’s sacrifice fly contributed to their success.

Nolan Schanuel’s second career hit, a leadoff single off Glasnow, set the stage for a four-run third inning. Brandon Drury had a three-hit day, including a home run, and he added another home run in the nightcap. A mishandled grounder and some mistakes by the Rays further aided the Angels’ scoring.

Grichuk, despite driving in more runs than he saved, made an incredible play to prevent the Rays from extending their lead. This defensive gem greatly helped pitcher Silseth, who had his first outing since May 16 where he allowed more than two runs. Silseth’s main issue was his location, which contributed to his recent struggles.

Despite facing difficulties, Silseth acknowledged his mistakes and acknowledged that these types of games happen. Fortunately, the Angels came out with a win. Canning entered the game in relief and provided some stability, allowing only one run in 3 1/3 innings, except for a costly 430-foot homer by Aranda in the sixth inning.

Overall, the Angels experienced a mix of good luck and disappointment in their doubleheader against the Rays. However, they remain optimistic and determined to improve their performance.
