Weekend Events in Orange County Canceled or Rescheduled as Hurricane Hilary Strikes


A multitude of weekend events throughout Southern California have undergone changes or cancellations in anticipation of Hurricane Hilary’s expected arrival on Sunday. It is likely that more events will follow suit.

Individuals with travel plans are advised to consult websites and social media platforms for updates.

The Screen Actors Guild and the Writers Guild of America, both currently on strike, have called off their planned picket lines for Monday.

Here is a compilation of other activities that have been modified or put on hold as the region prepares for the storm:

CONCERTS AND EVENTS

  • CicLAvia: The “CicLAvia — Koreatown Meets Hollywood” event, originally scheduled for Sunday, has been canceled due to the unpredictable weather. The organizers prioritized everyone’s safety and made the decision to cancel.
  • Gloria Molina Grand Park’s Sunday Sessions will now take place in a virtual format from 3-8 p.m. It will feature DJ Rich Medina and other virtual performances.
  • The Guatemalan music concert at Levitt Pavilion in McArthur Park, featuring Sara Curruchich, DJ Boris, and Los Chapincitos Los Angeles, has been canceled.
  • The Festival of Arts of Laguna Beach has temporarily closed its Fine Art Show and canceled Pageant of the Masters performances on Sunday and Monday. Other art destinations such as the Laguna Art Museum and Brea Art Gallery have also closed.
  • Rapper Michael Franti and metal band Spearhead’s concert at The Greek Theatre has been postponed until September 15.
  • The rock band My Morning Jacket’s concert at the Hollywood Bowl has been postponed until August 28.
  • The rock band Chicago’s sold-out show at Pacific Amphitheatre in Costa Mesa has been rescheduled for September 5.
  • Interstellar Experience, set to conclude today in San Pedro, has been canceled.
  • KCRW’s Summer Nights show at LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes, originally scheduled for Sunday, has been postponed until September 10.

SPORTS

  • LAFC: The Los Angeles Football Club-Colorado Rapids game, originally scheduled for Sunday, has been postponed to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Tickets for the initial date will still be valid for the rescheduled game.
  • Galaxy: The Los Angeles Galaxy versus Real Salt Lake game at Dignity Health Sports Park has been rescheduled for October 14. The game will also feature the induction of the late coach Sigi Schmid into the club’s Ring of Honor.
  • The University of Southern California women’s soccer match against Georgia has been canceled. Fans who purchased tickets will receive automatic refunds and complimentary tickets for the match on October 8 against Oregon State.
  • Los Alamitos Race Course has canceled its Sunday night race card and will remain closed throughout the day.
  • Dodgers/Angels: Both teams played split doubleheaders on Saturday due to the storm. The Dodgers swept their doubleheader against the Miami Marlins, while the Angels won their first game against the Tampa Bay Rays but lost the second.

LOCAL ATTRACTIONS

  • The Magic Castle will be closed on Sunday for both brunch and dinner.
  • Knott’s Berry Farm is closed.
  • Disneyland, Universal Studios Hollywood, and Magic Mountain are scheduled to be open, but guests are encouraged to check for updates before visiting. Disneyland California Adventure Park will close at 9 p.m. and Disneyland will close at 10 p.m.
  • Raging Waters will be closed on Sunday. Tickets can be used for future visits.
  • The Los Angeles Zoo will be closed on Sunday and Monday.
  • The Orange County Museum of Art is closed on Sunday and will reopen on Tuesday.

PARKS

  • The Bailey Canyon Trail and Mount Wilson Trail will be closed.
  • Los Angeles County officials have announced the closure of all county parks, buildings, and facilities on Sunday and Monday. This includes picnic shelters, playgrounds, multi-use trails, restrooms, botanical gardens and arboretums, lakes and swim beaches, pools and aquatic centers, natural areas, nature centers, and performance venues.

While the parks are not physically fenced in, visitors are encouraged to stay home.

Orange County parks, beaches, and facilities, including campgrounds, are closed on Sunday. Those with reservations have been notified and issued refunds. Visitors already at campgrounds were asked to evacuate.

The State Parks system has closed all beaches in Orange County and San Diego County for Sunday and Monday, including the popular Lower Trestles area. County beaches in Orange County are also closed.

Inland state parks in the path of the storm, such as Cuyamaca State Park, Ocotillo Wells State Vehicular Recreation Area, and Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, have been closed. Camping reservations have been canceled until Tuesday, August 22. Additional closures may occur, so it is advised to check parks.ca.gov/Incidents for updates.
