San Gabriel Valley Robbery Spree: Two Individuals Charged

Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced on Friday that two men have been charged in connection with a series of robberies and assaults in the San Gabriel Valley. The incidents, which included a disturbing video of a woman being dragged in a parking lot while trying to hold on to her purse, took place in Rowland Heights, Industry, and Hacienda Heights between May 30 and this Monday.

The suspects, Cameron Deshawn Perry and Russell Hardy Jr., both 19 years old, will be arraigned in a Pomona courtroom on Monday. They face charges of first-degree automated teller machine robbery, second-degree robbery, and attempted second-degree robbery. Perry also faces charges of elder or dependent adult abuse.

According to the District Attorney’s Office, the alleged crimes included:

  • Perry stealing a purse containing $150,000 in jewelry from a woman leaving a jewelry store in Rowland Heights on May 30.
  • Perry stealing a woman’s wallet as she returned to her vehicle after withdrawing money from an ATM in Industry on June 9.
  • Perry approaching a 73-year-old woman in a Hacienda Heights parking lot, grabbing her purse, and fleeing on June 14.
  • Perry attacking a man leaving a bank in Rowland Heights, hitting him on the head with a pistol, and demanding his wallet on July 2.
  • Perry attempting to steal a 75-year-old woman’s cross-body purse after she left an ATM in Hacienda Heights on Monday. A struggle ensued, and the woman was dragged in a parking lot until she let go of the purse. The incident was recorded by a bystander and shared online.

Hardy was arrested on Wednesday, while Perry was taken into custody on Thursday. Both suspects have remained in jail since then.

District Attorney Gascón expressed the importance of ensuring the safety and security of the community, particularly for vulnerable members such as the elderly. He stated, “No one in our community should have to live in fear of being robbed and assaulted while running errands.”
