Jamestown, R.I. witnesses the union of Aria Aber and Noah Warren in matrimony.

Aria Aber and Noah Robert Warren, two accomplished poets and published authors, were acquainted with each other’s literary work and had established a connection through social media prior to meeting in person. Their initial interaction took place virtually when Mr. Warren invited Ms. Aber, a writing fellow at Stanford University, to share her poetry for a series of readings he organized at the University of California, Berkeley, where he was pursuing his Ph.D. in English.

In February 2021, a few months after their first virtual encounter, Mr. Warren suggested that they take a casual stroll around Oakland’s Lake Merritt, as both of them resided in the area. Ms. Aber did not view this outing as a romantic date but rather an opportunity for two peers to bond and alleviate the boredom brought on by the pandemic. However, she immediately felt a connection with Mr. Warren during their time together at the lake, which included reading works by Polish poets.

A few days later, Mr. Warren mustered the courage to ask Ms. Aber out to dinner. There was a prolonged silence before she agreed, contemplating the potential life-changing implications of her decision. Despite her initial reservations, their relationship progressed rapidly, aided by the fact that they shared many mutual friends and acquaintances within the literary world. Ms. Aber acknowledged the seamless blending of their families, given their close-knit community.

Ms. Aber, who holds a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Goldsmiths College, University of London, and an M.F.A. in poetry from N.Y.U., is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in English and creative writing at the University of Southern California. Mr. Warren, on the other hand, completed his bachelor’s degree in English at Yale University and is in the final stages of his Ph.D. program at Berkeley. He also teaches literature and creative writing at Claremont McKenna College.

The summer of 2021 was a whirlwind of travel and introductions to friends and family members for the couple. These experiences provided Mr. Warren, 33, with profound clarity regarding his deep affection for Ms. Aber. He knew without a doubt that he wanted to marry her or, at the very least, take a chance by proposing. Their shared interests, hours of engaging conversations, and their ability to provide meaningful critiques of each other’s work effortlessly solidified their connection.

To propose, the couple booked a trip to Paris in March 2022. However, Ms. Aber was taken by surprise when her family alerted her to Mr. Warren’s possible intentions. Paris did not hold the same romantic associations for her, given her family’s refugee background and the often difficult experiences she had encountered while traveling through European cities. Nevertheless, she did have one beautiful memory of the city from her 18th birthday, where she was serenaded by Spanish tourists in Montmartre.

It was in this special place, near the Sacré-Coeur Basilica, that Mr. Warren proposed and created another cherished Parisian memory for the couple. The engagement ring held personal significance for Ms. Aber, as it contained a sapphire hidden underneath the band, reminiscent of her mother’s engagement ring, which she adored as a child.

The couple, currently residing in Los Angeles, exchanged vows on August 5th at Dragonline Studios in Jamestown, R.I., near Mr. Warren’s parents’ home. The ceremony was officiated by their close friend, Louise Glück, who had obtained ordination from the American Marriage Ministries for the occasion.

The weekend celebration, described by Ms. Aber as a “beautiful blur,” included 150 guests and incorporated poetry readings as well as elements of the Persian custom Sofreh Aghd. This custom involved the couple being covered by a shawl and looking at each other for the first time as husband and wife through a mirror, which had been a favorite part of Afghan weddings during Ms. Aber’s childhood, evoking a sense of secrecy and mystique.
