Fontana Police Fatally Shoot Off-Duty LA County Sheriff’s Deputy

Alejandro Diaz, a 45-year-old off-duty Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy from Fontana, was tragically shot and killed by police on the Sierra Lakes Golf Club in Fontana. The incident occurred at approximately 3:55 p.m. on Tuesday and Diaz later passed away at a hospital, as reported by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

Following standard protocol, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the lethal force encounter involving officers from the Fontana Police Department. No further information has been released at this time as the investigation is ongoing.

Expressing their condolences, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department stated that they are deeply saddened by the incident. They are closely collaborating with the Fontana Police Department and the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department throughout the investigation. The department acknowledged the difficulty faced by Diaz’s family, their personnel, and the officers involved.

According to KTLA5, the incident began when authorities received a 911 call reporting a dispute involving a man at a nearby home near the Sierra Lakes Golf Club. The distressed individual, who had been consuming alcohol, started firing shots into a wall before leaving the house with two guns and heading towards the golf course. Witnesses observed the man firing multiple shots upon entering the golf course.

Neighbor Myesha Dowe told the station, “He just started shooting. Shooting up everything. Scaring the golfers, shooting at the police. It seems that mental health is real. He lost his edge and just started shooting up the neighborhood.”

The suspect was confronted by the police and subsequently shot, although it has not been confirmed if the suspect fired any shots on the course or if any shots were fired at officers.
