Bill Hader Shares Insight into Weight Gain During Final Season of ‘Barry’

Bill Hader, the talented comedian and co-creator of the acclaimed series “Barry,” recently discovered that he can no longer indulge in sweets like he used to. During the filming of the final season, Hader gained 25 pounds, which made him realize the importance of understanding his dietary needs. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he expressed how rewarding it has been to see his growth as a filmmaker throughout the show’s four seasons. However, at the age of 45, Hader noticed that he gains weight more quickly than before and that he needs to be mindful of his sweet consumption.

Hader humorously recounted a time when a costume designer on set suggested that he should wear bigger clothes due to his increasing weight. It seems that stress eating played a significant role in his weight gain during filming. Hader admitted to indulging in unhealthy eating habits between episodes three and four, as the stress of his workload took its toll. But now, he is committed to losing the extra pounds.

When asked about training for the action scenes in “Barry,” Hader candidly admitted that he doesn’t train and instead relies on his love for doughnuts and stress eating. Reflecting on his body image struggles, he shared that it’s uncomfortable to watch himself on screen and that he doesn’t like the way he looks or sounds. However, as he nears his 45th birthday, Hader recognizes that his weight is now more of a health concern. He’s been advised by doctors about maintaining a certain weight for his age and height.

During his tenure on “Saturday Night Live,” Hader was motivated to start exercising and jogging in order to present his best self on camera. However, he humorously mentioned that he still indulged in unhealthy eating habits during his time on the sketch comedy show.

“Barry” has received 11 Emmy nominations this year, with Hader himself earning four nods for his outstanding performance in the show. The series follows the journey of a hitman-turned-actor navigating the theater scene in Los Angeles. All four seasons of “Barry” are available for streaming on Max.
