The Moises Caicedo transfer saga has finally come to an end. Chelsea has officially signed the midfielder, putting an end to a lengthy negotiation process with Brighton that intensified over the past week.

Chelsea and Brighton reached an agreement for the signing of Caicedo on Sunday night, as reported by Fabrizio Romano. The transfer fee of £115 million sets a new record for English clubs, and Caicedo has signed an eight-year contract with the option for another year. Brighton will also receive a sell-on clause as part of the deal.

Caicedo completed his medical examination on Monday, according to The Athletic. The deal also includes £15 million in add-ons, which are expected to be easily achieved.

Throughout the summer, Chelsea and Brighton have been negotiating over the transfer fee for the midfielder. The negotiations hit a roadblock when Liverpool made a £110 million bid for Caicedo. However, Caicedo expressed his preference for a move to Chelsea, which prompted the London club to take action.

Caicedo is the latest addition to Chelsea’s squad, which includes several expensive summer signings. The club acquired attacking players Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson for £52 million and £32 million respectively. Caicedo will partner with Enzo Fernandez, who Chelsea acquired last January for over £105 million from Benfica, in the midfield.

The deal was finalized on Sunday, shortly after Caicedo’s two main suitors, Chelsea and Liverpool, faced each other in their season opener. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, with both teams struggling due to the absence of a defensive midfielder. Chelsea will now shift their focus to signing another midfielder, 19-year-old Romeo Lavia from Southampton, who is also being pursued by Liverpool
