Tour Overhaul Maintains September Date for Irish Open

In addition to the four Major championships, the 2024 Irish Open has been confirmed as a $6 million (€5.5m) event at Royal County Down from September 12-15. This prestigious tournament has the potential to attract top PGA Tour players. Eligibility to play in all post FedExCup events in the new ‘Back 9’ series will be extended to the top 15 non-members from the top 70 in the FedEx Cup standings.

CEO Keith Pelley stated, “The many new and original enhancements we have introduced will guarantee drama and excitement for our fans, our broadcasters, and all our stakeholders across the entire season and means, more than ever, that every week counts on the DP World Tour.”

The 2024 Race to Dubai will be divided into three phases. The first phase consists of the five ‘Global Swings’ taking place from November 2023 to August 2024. This is followed by the nine-event ‘Back 9’ series, including the Irish Open, from September to October 2024. The final phase consists of the two-event ‘DP World Tour play-offs’ in November.

The ‘Opening Swing’ will kick off the season in November and December of the current year and will be followed by the ‘International Swing’ in the New Year, starting with the new Dubai Invitational and continuing until early March.

Following that is the seven-event ‘Asian Swing’, which begins with the Singapore Classic in late March and includes notable tournaments like the Masters and the PGA Championship. The seven-event ‘European Swing’, featuring the US Open, starts in late May and concludes with the BMW International Open in early July.

This is followed by the seven-event ‘Closing Swing’, culminating with The Open at Royal Troon and running until late August.

Points earned in the Majors will contribute towards the Race to Dubai, but not in the Swing Rankings. Each Swing champion will be awarded a $200,000 prize.

Additionally, a $1 million bonus pool will be distributed among the top 10 players on the Race to Dubai who have competed in at least eight regular Global Swing events outside of the Majors and the Scottish Open.

The winners of the five swings will also earn qualification spots in the first three Rolex Series events and in all the events of the ‘Back 9’, which marks the start of phase two.

The ‘Back 9’ series will consist of nine events, ranging from the British Masters to the Irish Open, the BMW PGA, and an unconfirmed late-October event.

After the ‘Back 9’, the top 110 players on the Race to Dubai will earn their cards for the 2025 season, while the top 70 will qualify for phase three – the DP World Tour play-offs.

The top 70 players will compete in the $9 million Abu Dhabi Championship from November 7-10, with the top 50 players advancing to the $10 million DP World Tour Championship.

To conclude, the top 10 players on the final Race to Dubai rankings will share a $6 million bonus pool, and the top 10 members not otherwise exempt will earn PGA Tour cards for the 2025 season.
